Up to 15% of women experience significant depression in the postpartum period, typically within one month after delivery. Most new moms experience the ‘baby blues’ in the early days after childbirth which includes anxiety, mood swings, and difficulty sleeping. It’s not uncommon for these feelings to turn into depression, known as postpartum depression.

Postpartum depression is linked to the body’s chemical response, as well as the social and psychological changes that happen after childbirth.

Symptoms of postpartum depression include:

  • Depressed mood
  • Severe mood swings
  • Withdrawing from family and friends
  • Difficulty bonding with your baby
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Loss of appetite or eating much more than usual
  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Thoughts about harming yourself or your baby

If left untreated, postpartum depression could last for many months, or longer. It’s important to reach out for help, especially if your symptoms don’t fade after two weeks, or the depression is making it hard to complete everyday tasks and caring for your baby.

Our therapists and psychiatrists have an average 15 years of experience, and many specialize in postpartum depression and women’s health. We make it easy for you to browse and learn about our providers so you can find the perfect match, 7 days a week, including evenings and weekends.
